Kitoko

Congolese, b. 1963.
Lives and works in Kinshasa, DRC.

Kitoko is a Congolese painter known for his colorful paintings of animals and cultural symbols. His works evoke the warmth, natural beauty and cultural richness of his native Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). His love of wildlife, a frequent inspiration for his paintings, stems from spending time at the zoo as a child, where his father worked. In his paintings of primates, in particular, one sees the commonality between man and animal. At the heart of his works is his love of Africa and the protection of nature. The natural and indestructible links between man and animal serve as a frequent theme throughout his works.
