Joël Lukombo is a Congolese artist known for his use of ballpoint pen in his paintings. Drawing inspiration from daily life in Kinshasa as well as portraits, personalities, leisure activities, and fashion, Joel’s works are characterized by his use of ballpoint pen in many of his paintings. The juxtaposition of ink with oil or acrylic paint forces the viewer to switch focus from the background to small highlighted details within the works. The overall style is one of beauty and serenity.
