Congolese, b. 1972
Lives and works in Kinshasa, DRC

The works of Francklin Mbungu are truly unique among contemporary Congolese artists. Made with intricate, hand-cut paper applied to canvas,  to which the artist often adds string or ribbon to add additional volume and texture, these collages are truly magical.  His works feature scenes of everyday life in Kinshasa as well as the country’s  mythology. His subjects are often portrayed in flamboyant outfits with a nod to 1970’s fashion.
